Memorial Traveling Wall
July 17-21, 2008, Whiteside
Park
Ely, Minnesota
has been selected as one of the 2008 locations for the
Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall, a half-size replica of the
Washington, DC, Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Moving Wall
visits 22 to 28 cities around the U.S. annually and has
visited over 1,000 cities since it began. This is not a
commercial entity and there is no government involvement
with the Moving Wall, a non-profit organization and it is
run entirely on donations. Boundary Waters Blues Festival,
Inc. a 501 (c) (3) corporation is honored to host this and
other events surrounding its visit to Ely. Donation to:

Listening
Point Tours 1 – 4 pm
Listening Point is now on
the Register of National Historic Places. This piece of
land on Burntside Lake served as a getaway and place of
inspiration to the author, conservationist, and wilderness
advocate Sigurd Olson. Meet at 1:00 PM in the lobby area
outside of the Ely/Winton Historical Museum on the
Vermilion Community College campus. The tour will begin
with a short video on Sigurd Olson in CL128. We'll then
head to Listening Point and Sig's writing shack for a
guided walk and return by 4 PM. Be prepared to walk short
distances. Fee per person is $12.00. Maximum amount per
family is $30. For information or registration call

footwear/footwear to get wet, bug repellent, sunscreen,
raincoat, etc. Transportation is provided and limited to

History for Kids: Dig in the Ground!

Program: July 22 and August 5. Become an archeologist, dig
in the dirt and find things left by people over the past
10,000 years. Sponsored by the Ely-Winton Historical
Society, 1900 East Camp Street in cooperation with the
U.S. Forest Service.

(3 to 12 years old) --Every Wednesday, starting June 18th
thru August 13th. Cost is $5.00 per child.
Parents are welcome to join the children at no charge.
Or you may choose, instead, to take an ADULT TOUR of the
Museum while the kids are participating, if it’s okay
with the kids. We will have a TREASURE HUNT WITH PRIZES!
We will do a CRAFT and SING SONGS! We will also take a
mini-tour of Dorothy’s Cabins! And finish with a ROOT BEER
FLOAT!

the North Woods - Revisiting the Little Sioux Fire

Visit Meander Lake today and
examine the forest that has developed in the past 30 plus
years since the Little Sioux Fire on the Echo Trail. You
might even find some blueberries. Walking distance: 1
mile. Depart at 1:00 and return between 4:00 and 5:00.

Reading Event - Chef Roberto's Magical Cooking Show

ages. A yummy mix of magic and comedy for the entire
family.

Helsinki, Finland -- Hoedown Trio 7 pm
Eli Bissonett and Lynnanne
Vesper, who’ve spent a year in Kaustinen, Finland return
to present a concert with the fine Helsinki musicians,
Hoedown Trio, on the Friday night of the Blueberry
Festival, at 7 p.m. in Washington Auditorium. Eli and
LynneAnne will present traditional and ancient Finnish
music. A concert of cultural exchange, the Hoedown Trio
will present their version of American and Finnish folk,
country, and roots music. Tickets are $11 adult, $9 for
seniors, and NLAA members, and $6 for adults, available
through Ely’s Music Outfitters, 365-2889, 1st Avenue East
and Camp Street, and at the door.
