     Log cabins honed from native timbers were constructed in the early twenties and remain neatly knit into the pine-studded shoreline of Big Lake.  Throughout the past few decades, seven additional housekeeping cabins have been built --- some along the shoreline --- others set back into the forest.  Creature comforts have been added without altering the ambiance of the early decor --- indoor

plumbing, complete kitchens, and full baths tend to make you forget the unchanged surrounding wilderness.
     Moose, deer and other wild animals inhabit the trails and forests where earlier innkeepers corralled a stable of horses for their guests' riding pleasure.
     Unique to Big Lake, and its relationship to the wilderness, motorized boats and canoes are both allowed and available for our guests to use.

Whispering Pines is our home as well as our business;
visitors here are treated as guests of our family--which they are.
